All Things Ferret

When we first decided to get a ferret, the plan was simple: just one. My daughter had her heart set on a husky, but instead I joked, “What about a husky-colored ferret?” 😂 That’s when the idea really took off. Truth is, I’d wanted a ferret since I was a little girl, but back then they were illegal in NYC. So when the opportunity finally came around, we both got one. She chose the husky-toned one, and I went for the classic sable. A few weeks passed, and I knew I wanted a girl ferret. 💖 Not just any girl — a white one with black eyes. Then, as if the stars aligned, we found two beauties: a light, brown-colored sable female and a semi-white with bold black eyes. That’s when I looked at them all and thought, this is my business now. I was blissfully ferret-rich. Could I have gotten more? Probably. But maintaining ferrets isn’t cheap and oh my gosh, they poop  soooo  much.   🏠Environment & Enrichment Large cage with multiple levels  — minimum 90x60x60cm (or bigger!), with space to run and tunnel. Ferret-proofed play area  — curious little explorers WILL get into everything. If you're placing them in a room to play, use this gate . Make sure the locking mechanism is not facing your ferrets. They can climb up anything. The sleek window side should be facing them. We loved allowing them to run around the living room. This will keep them outa of kitchen area where they could have gotten under sinks and or ovens. Hidey spots & hammocks  — cozy nests keep them feeling secure. Toys they can chase and stash  — rotate weekly to keep them engaged. I loved buying my ferrets all sorts of soft toys. They like to hide them and play with them. Never buy anything that has rubber.
